Tea plantation landscape at mountain region

Shinya Kimura figured out, a) features of tea plantation landscape in Oku-eigenji district, Higashi-ohmi city, Shiga prefecture, b) ways of living sustaining the landscape, and c) problems happening to the livings, as a typical case of Japanese mountain region. It became clear that, a) small tea plantations were interspersed among houses, grass fields, rice fields, and vegetable gardens, b) traditional skills had been used for taking care of tea trees and the fields surrounding tea plantations had been maintained closely, c) abandoned tea plantations had been increasing because of aging of their owners, damages by deers on tea trees, and discouragement by declining prices of tea.

The scenario for empowerment of this district was drawn based on his research outcomes, and proposed to the mayor of Higashi-ohmi city. The main facility, the key figure of this scenario, was established as a roadside station by reusing the former junior high school. -
