The gardens of Kyoto which are located near the faults, related to the formation of the topography, tell us a new way of seeing landscape.

There are many beautiful gardens that skillfully incorporate the terrain in Kyoto. Marin Tomita focused on that they were fault cliffs deeply involved in the formation of the topography of Kyoto. While referring to the active fault map, she went to 32 outstanding gardens and observed carefully how the fault cliffs appeared in the compositions of the gardens. As the result, she showed guidelines to classify the gardens by the differences in how the fault cliffs were utilized. This is a new way of seeing the gardens, which extends the wings of our imagination to the geological time scale. Details of the research results will be released later in papers.
